I have cleaned the contacts and had the problem go away for a while.
I have made slight bending adjustments to the arm that goes between the coil and the contact. This timer had originally been returned because the relay was chattering. It came back to us with a different relay (now Omron, previously potter-Brumfield). The timer does not beep properly. There is either a quiet chirp, no noise at all, or occasionally, a normal beeping tone. It's being returned to have the beep fixed (the beep that should occur when the timer is done).
The repaired timer now also chirps exactly 1 minute before time is up. It did not do that previously and we would prefer that it did not do this. Disregard the discoloration at the screw hole. I let a hot lead touch the mounting screw after disconnecting it (to stop the chattering). Don't worry, I've unplugged the stove....
